Οι τόκοι των Αρχαίων Εκείνων Ελλήνων

 

(Απόσπασμα από το ποίημα - «Εάλω η Πατρίς»)

 

« Ο ήλιος θα φανεί την άλλη ή την παράλλη μέρα

αργά φωτίζοντας την άκρα συμφορά,

οι κάτοικοι θ᾽ αφυπνιστούν και θα ξανασκεφτούν

τους τόκους των αρχαίων να τιμήσουν...

 

Έτσι θα πορευτούν σαν μοιραία επιταγή

σαν θεία τιμωρία ύβρεως και προσταγή,

ευχή τον ήλιο της πατρίδας να σηκώσουν ξανά

να χτίσουν νέες τέχνες με υψηλά ιδανικά».

From poem - THE HOMELAND HAS FALLEN (Translated by Philip Ramp)

 

«The sun will appear the next day and the day after that

slowly lighting the utter disaster

the inhabitants will awaken and think things over

honor the interest paid them by the ancients…

 

Thus they will carry on like a fated command

like divine punishment subjected to the dictates of curse

a prayer the homeland’s sun will rise again

and they will construct new arts with high ideals…»
